One more reason to love my Vitamix
I love my Vitamix. Hands down, it’s my favorite appliance. I purchased it over six years ago and use it daily for everything including smoothies, shakes, soups, sauces, salad dressings, ice cream and applesauce.
Last week, the grounding prong fell to the counter as I was plugging in my machine. I’m not sure what happened exactly. It didn’t appear bent or damaged, but I could see right away that I wouldn’t be using my Vitamix that day as there was no way for me to fix it.
I was close to the end of my warranty and wasn’t sure this type of issue would even be covered. In addition, even if it was covered, I wasn’t sure I wanted to be without my Vitamix for the time it would take to deal with the issue. I actually contemplated just ordering a new model and moving on.
If you’ve done any research on these amazing machines, though, you know they are not cheap. I am quite certain my husband thought I had completely lost my mind when I purchased it. In fact, he gave me a pretty hard time about paying so much for a blender. Even after I explained that I had purchased a reconditioned machine that was much less expensive, yet still covered under the same seven year warranty, he still wasn’t convinced.
Do you know what finally did convince him that I was on to something? Sharing all the amazing things I’ve made with it the past six years, and seeing how much I’ve used it. He has yet to use it on his own, but I’m pretty sure he’d agree with me now that it is the best appliance in the house, and worth every penny we paid.
Nevertheless, I really wasn’t ready to go through all that with him again, so I decided to call customer service. I braced myself for a long hold time, and was shocked when a customer service specialist answered after the first ring. She asked me a few quick questions, I explained what happened, and she immediately provided me with packing and shipping instructions to return it for service. I couldn’t have been on the phone more than five minutes.
I packed up my machine and canister as instructed, dropped it at our UPS store, and prepared to wait the full two weeks to get it back.
Four days later, I opened my front door and found the package in the photo above.
I couldn’t believe it. As if that weren’t enough, I opened the box to find that Vitamix had replaced my clean but very etched canister with a shiny new one. I was beyond excited.
I am not an ambassador for Vitamix, nor will I receive anything for this post. I am simply sharing my story because customer service means a lot to me, and Vitamix has exceeded my expectations.
I know that, at some point down the road, I will have to part with my beloved machine because I will have worked it to death. When that time comes, I won’t hesitate to order another Vitamix. It’s a fantastic product, backed by extraordinary customer service. These two things are unfortunately becoming increasingly more difficult to find, but very much worth sharing when you do.
